Botox or Botulinum Toxin is an effective method for the elimination of facial wrinkles that appear as a result of the passage of time, and expressions and gestures made with the face. It acts by relaxing the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles. The risk of side effects is very low. Very small amounts of a purified extract of “botulinum toxin type A” are used, using extremely fine needle injections.

What does Botox consist of?

The treatment is very simple, it consists of injecting a small amount of “botulinum toxin type A” in the muscles whose contraction creates the wrinkle we want to eliminate, thus blocking the nerve impulse that reaches that muscle. As a result, the muscle weakens, the skin covering the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles gradually disappear.

Its application is practically painless, the patient will only notice a slight reddening of the area to be treated due to the punctures. The results appear two or three days after its application, being complete its effect after about ten days depending on the patient.

In Spain, the use of “botulinum toxin type A” is only authorized in the upper third of the face: forehead wrinkles, frown lines and periocular area.

Botox results:

  • The infiltrations of this toxin make it possible to recover a much younger appearance, smoothing wrinkles and expression lines.
  • A more relaxed expression is achieved.
  • Restores radiance to the face.
  • Revitalizes the eyes immediately after application.
  • Fracture of the skin caused by deep wrinkling over time is prevented.

In which areas can Botox be applied?

Botulinum toxin can only be applied to the upper third of the face.

  • Frontal wrinkles: these are those annoying wrinkles caused by the contraction of the frontal muscle.
  • Periorbital wrinkles: better known as crow’s feet, these are expression wrinkles formed by the contraction of the orbicularis oculi muscle.
  • Wrinkles between the eyebrows: this is undoubtedly the most demanded area when applying botulinum toxin.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

The results of Botox are visible in approximately 4 to 6 months depending on the metabolism of each patient, there may be slight variations. After several applications of this toxin, the effects may start to last longer and may even last up to eight months.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

It is not recommended to apply this botulinum toxin in pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor is it recommended for people suffering from significant neuromuscular diseases that may increase the effect of Botox, such as myasthenia gravis or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It should also not be used in active infected areas.
